Abstract

The elderly population has been growing in recent years and is expected to continue to increase in the coming decades. This population requires specialized services and attention to provide them with comprehensive health and to enjoy a better quality of
life and welfare states. The present work proposes to develop an intervention project using the handbells choir as a music therapy
tool to prevent, rehabilitate and strengthen the capacities of older adults who attend a day care center. Each of the benefits obtained
with the participation of older adults in this group is described through activities and exercises with the handbells. The handbells
choir offers this population a space to communicate, relate, stay active and express their emotions in a creative way.
