Annual Conference of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain, 27–29 March 2026, Oxford (UK)
At the end of March 2026, the Annual Conference of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain will take place at New College, University of Oxford (UK)
All papers must have a philosophical focus on education, ranging from the analysis of a philosophical issue in relation to education to a philosophical examination of some aspect of current educational theory, research, policy, or practice. Three sessions of the conference will be reserved for invited plenary lectures. The remainder of the conference will be devoted to papers submitted in response to this call for proposals.
High-quality submissions addressing topics that have been underrepresented in recent conferences are particularly encouraged. These may include:
-
Informal and non-formal education;
-
Vocational education;
-
Issues of race and ethnicity in education;
-
Specific school curriculum areas.
This conference does not have a specific theme; submissions are welcome from all areas of research in the philosophy of education.
Accepted contributions will be presented in parallel sessions and may take one of four formats: individual papers, symposia, work-in-progress presentations, or workshops. In addition, there will be a pre-conference student seminar on the afternoon of Thursday, 27 March 2025.
The keynote speakers are:
Prof. Paul C. Taylor, Philosophy (University of California, USA);
Prof. Andrea English, Philosophy of Education (University of Edinburgh, UK); and
Prof. Marek Tesar, Philosophy of Education (University of Melbourne, Australia).

XIV Annual Jubilee Centre Conference, “Character Caught, Taught, and Sought”, 8–10 January 2026, Oxford
The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues’ Annual Conference at the University of Birmingham will take place in early 2026 at Oriel College, in the university city of Oxford. The Jubilee Centre’s original conceptual framework, which divides strategies for character development into those that are taught, caught, and sought, has resonated with both theorists and practitioners alike, and these terms are now used in many schools and universities within and beyond the UK. However, it is necessary to revisit this conceptualisation and subject it to further scrutiny. Several questions arise, such as: Is this framework theoretically rigorous and comprehensive in its coverage of possible character development strategies, or does it overlook something important? How do these strategies relate to one another? Would it, for example, be possible to teach character productively in an institution where it is not also caught from the ethos? How does the sought element relate to the development of practical wisdom (phronesis), which has recently attracted renewed interest? Is learning from role models a case of taught, caught, or sought—or perhaps all three at once? How does empirical evidence compare regarding the effectiveness of these three strategies, individually and collectively? What is the role of the practitioner in implementing these strategies, and how much of that responsibility lies with leadership teams?
The primary aim of this conference is to bring these discussions together by exploring how current agendas in virtue ethics, moral psychology, professional ethics, and character education provide both theoretical and empirical resources to advance these discourses and to further consolidate—or revise—the tripartite conceptualisation.
The Jubilee Centre’s 2026 Annual Conference aims to bring together experts from various disciplines to explore these and many other questions. Can theorists in philosophy, moral and developmental psychology, education, professional ethics, sociology, theology, and history learn from one another’s work? How can theoretical and practical insights be integrated?

Educating for Moral Flourishing Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Virtue Ethics, Moral Psychology, Justice, Sociology, and Theology, March 12th-13th, 2026, Madrid (Spain)
The conference will explore how education can foster the conditions for human beings not only to live morally but also to flourish. What does it mean to cultivate moral character in a time of social fragmentation, moral uncertainty, and deep psychological vulnerability? This call invites contributions that explore the concept of moral flourishing— understood as a state of ethical maturity and human wholeness—through the lenses of virtue ethics, moral psychology, justice, sociology, and theology.
We welcome interdisciplinary work that considers the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and lived experiences of moral education across cultures, contexts, and traditions. Contributions may engage with classical and contemporary accounts of virtue, the psychology of moral development, the role of empathy and humility in ethical growth, or the institutional and communal practices that sustain the pursuit of moral flourishing.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· The philosophical grounding of moral flourishing in virtue ethics
· Psychological insights into character development and moral motivation
· Restorative justice practices and their role in healing moral harm
· The sociological dimensions of moral education and community formation
· Theological understandings of grace, forgiveness, and moral transformation
· Pedagogical approaches to cultivating moral imagination, empathy, and responsibility
· Cross-cultural or comparative accounts of moral flourishing
The keynote speakers are Prof. James Arthur, Prof. Martín Echavarría, Prof. Mario De Caro, Prof. Glen Pettigrove, Prof. Carlos Granados, and Prof. Chiara Palazzolo.
Conference languages will be English & Spanish (simultaneous translation provided). Best contributions will be published in a Routledge volume about the conference’s topic.

XXV InterEstratic Congress and 9th Meeting of Innovative Schools
October 22–24, 2025 – Madrid, Spain
From October 22 to 24, 2025, the
XXV International Congress on Technologies for Education and Knowledge (InterESTRATIC 2025)
will be held at the Faculty of Education of UNED. The event is organized by the ForInterMed Research Group and the EstraTIC Master’s Program.
The congress aims to provide a space for meeting, reflection, and debate among education and educational research professionals. To better achieve this purpose, it will be held this year alongside the 9th Meeting of Innovative Schools, promoted by the DIM-EDU Group.
The central theme of this edition, “Natural Intelligence in Times of AI: Challenges for the Teaching Profession and Educational Organizations,” seeks to focus on education professionals and educational organizations in a broad sense. In particular, two main areas of work are prioritized:
-
The work of education professionals and how to foster professional capital in uncertain times.
-
The didactic, curricular, and organizational development frameworks of educational institutions in a context of change.
The thematic lines addressed by InterESTRATIC 2025 focus on the following issues:
-
Didactics, curriculum, and educational innovation.
-
Leadership, organization, and management of educational institutions.
-
Competencies, training, and professional development of educators.
-
Educational technology, digital education, and educational uses of AI.
After the congress, contributions that the Scientific Committee considers most outstanding will be proposed for publication in the journals Innovación Educativa and the International Journal of Theory and Educational Research (RITIE). Publication will be subject to acceptance following each journal’s peer-review process.
The program will include conferences, round tables, discussion sessions, and concurrent presentations, providing spaces for exchange and dialogue. Education professionals at all levels, researchers, and doctoral and postgraduate students are invited to participate.
